Aside from the fact I haven’t seen Eternals yet, I’m still at a loss as to the way some analyse films.

You’d think Marvel had made 20+ Godfather level films. Here in lies the issue with this current RT obsession.

Too many happily ignore the multitude of ok’ish MCU movies because RT gives them a false perspective.

Easy passes like Captain Marvel at 79, then we see Interstellar at 72. You really think every one of those critics who gave a fresh to CM thought it was as good as Interstellar?

Yet joe public see one at 79 and one at 72 and think one must be better than the other. It’s poisonous.

Is 48 great for Eternals? Hell no. It’s definitely not the full story though. Why does every MCU ranking I’m looking at list Eternals over CM when that got a 79?

Sometimes you can give a movie a mixed review, but still like it more than one you’ve seemingly given a thumbs up to.  That’s nowhere to be seen in this RT culture.

There’s either winners or losers now. It’s black or it’s white. No grey.
All driven by an aggregate system that includes ‘critics’ that write for wonderfully respected publications like ‘PopLifeSTL.com’ and ‘Eskimo TV’.

It’s a medium we all love turned into a sport.  No wonder studios are scared to take risks when the greater culture can’t process them rationally.

The MCU can be saved if it is folded into the Venomverse, under the guidance of visionary storyteller Tom Hardy.

Excuse me, but venom and mcu must both be folded into the Letoverse* to find true salvation.

*It begins with a crossover sequel to Morbius 3, ZSJL, and children of dune.

Rotten Tomatoes is “4 out of 5 dentists prefer Crest” applied to movies. People take it as gospel when it’s just an aggregate of whether critics and media personalities “liked” a movie or not. What does “liked” mean? 🤷‍♂️ It’s up to them. Is your definition of “liked” the same as theirs? 🤷‍♂️

Totally agree with you, @wildphantom.

I’d be lying to say I’m not disappointed that Eternals didn’t click as a MCU epic/Chloe Zhao style/cure diseases masterpiece.
That was naive in retrospect. Movie is a B for me and I enjoyed it. It was pretty ponderous. The world-building needed more time, but the concept was pretty big for a six-parter on D+.
Domestic goals for this seem to be F9 (very likely?), BW (pretty likely?), $200m (maybe), V2 (maybe).

Saturday morning Deadline update...

https://deadline.com/2021/11/eternals-opening-weekend-box-office-1234868870/

"Disney/Marvel’s Eternals as of this minute is still looking to come in at $70M for the weekend, but the feature could buckle and land in the high $60M range for the weekend if it doesn’t have a solid Saturday night."

"Red Notice...I also hear the movie, which is booked in 750 theaters, is grossing well under $1M."

DCEU has 4 movies lined up for next year.

Their last three movies were The Suicide Squad, WW84 and Birds of Prey.

But 70m OW for a D-List franchise is the end of Marvel with No Way Home around the corner?

Lmao.
