Phenomenal days sales that the last update. I won’t do any weekend $$$ comps as its a 2 day vs usual 3-4 day, its on Boxing Day and the HBO MAX release may cause some higher piracy levels than normal, but here are some comparisons to some successful films 12 hours before release in terms of tickets sold:

 

TLK - Total 1831/5554

Joker - Total 446/2756

Frozen II - Total 670/2572

TROS - Total  2002/5606

 

As you can see WW84 holds its own pretty well although it is boosted by being on a holiday which is the same for TLK if I remember correctly. Also similar ticket availability as Frozen II and Joker is a good sign in my opinion.

Is it possible they held the bad reviews. This is sorta unreal. From almost 90 with good number of reviews to 60-65.

The last reviews is probably bad because they are angry with WB.

I think WB need to reboot the franchise and I’m ok with this or end with a WW3 but without Jenkins, probably after the first one she become arrogant, give WW3 to Zack Snyder and a masterpiece for end the trilogy

Cloud Atlas is definitely one of the best...my favorite blockbuster of the decade so far with only Interstellar ahead of it (which also has a 74%). Others I would mention are The Dark Knight Rises, Deathly Hallows Part 2 (DH1 is the MVP of the series though), Catching Fire, and Mad Max: Fury Road.

 

Didn't mention animated films, and I feel like I'm forgetting a few other blockbuster films...

Thank you! And what do those movies have in common? They all grossed one billion! And two did it without China and great RT scores! Not being definitive, but I think this would have grossed 1 billion. Just my opinion.

I have a feeling this is some sort of pandemic thing where only the extremely excited people wanted to watch it at home before the final week, and so the skew in early reviews was just higher than usual. In usual times critics would have gone to theaters and so perhaps maybe a wider sample would have wanted to see it earlier.

It’s kind of sad to think that there’s probably some WB advertising executive sweating right now because they won’t be able to say “Certified Fresh” in any future marketing. Imagine going back 20-30 years and telling someone that such an arbitrary thing was perceived as so important.
