If Joker hits a billion, I would say it's the #2 box office story of the year for sure.

- First R rated film to do so, opens the doors for R rated blockbusters like never before

But to be fair, Endgame pushed the bounds for what a blockbuster could be. A 357M opening (1B worldwide opening) was unheard of. I really think this changes box office as a whole.

Yep. Joker wouldn't be #1 if it did 2B.

Joker is #1 BO story of the year. Many people expected crazy numbers from EndGame. Nobody expected 1bln gross and crazy legs without China from R-rated comic book drama/thriller without action and spectacle.

Rumor had it also that Joker was supposed to be a great film also...

It s not like Joker is upping the filmmaking landscape/game.

It s definitely a movie full of surprises I ll give it that.

I wonder if Warner might not move The Suicide Squad up to August 2020. They're filming right now and could conceivably have it ready by then. OTOH, they (Warner) could want two DC movies for 2021 and I don't think there's anything ready (unless Shazam 2 gets into production in Spring 2020).

August is probably too tight but November 2020 is doable.  I think they’ll try and get Black Adam for late 2021

The international hold is absolutely stunning.

Give it $45m in weekdays and a $75m third weekend (being a little conservative), and that takes it to $472m OS by next Sunday...there's no way it misses $600m OS. Fucking incredible.

YOu re right.

WHo needs kids really ?

Well that's part of the story.  Impressive can mean a lot of things,  in this climate where everything is family driven a movie that is anything but family driven doing these numbers is very impressive.   Also,  doing it on a shoestring budget.

That's not to say a record breaking blockbuster isn't impressive but the two are impressive in different ways.

You sound upset by this run.   Why are you upset with these numbers?

As has been noted by many, a fantastic weekend drop for Joker, at both the domestic and international box office. In the age of large preview grosses, to drop only 42.8% in its second weekend is exceptional.

Lucy in the Sky's numbers are Breathe levels of embarrassing. Won't even reach half a million dollars. What a waste of time and talent.

Parasite posting not only the biggest PTA since La La Land but also the biggest ever for a foreign language film is crazy impressive. That's just an incredible start, no matter how it expands.

Jojo Rabbit is likely to post a massive PTA next weekend too.

Yes but Endgame literally shattered records like nobody's business. Even ticketing sites crashed. The Opening Weekend was crazy like even I had to wait to get a ticket for at least 2 weeks . 2B in record 10 days is no joke my friend.

I wish boxofficemojo would do a comp between Joker, Deadpool films, IT and American Sniper.

A few years back, base members were able to create their own lists of movies for comp. I think you have to be a pro member to have that access now!😔
