How are critics supposed to review this one, especially since most of them are scared to go to the theater? "Great movie, but for god's sake stay home?"

By reviewing it as a movie. It's not their job to review anything else.

I don't think going back to a full lockdown is possible, but a lockdown of non essential mass gatherings is very much possible, and I don't think movie theaters are going to be considered essential.

who wants to bet even if Mulan still comes out first it'll be barely mentioned in those reviews meanwhile loads of the reviews for this will have finger wagging "mr nolan it was irresponsible to release this sir"

Nolan hasn't exactly been a critics favorite anyway, his 2 most unique films (Interstellar,Prestige) have the worst reviews relative to the rest.

Dunkirk was the highest rated film of 2017 on Metacritic with a 94. That's, like, insane critical reception.

i meant they don't give great reviews to his best films like they do to his mediocre ones (TDK,Dunkirk)

One man's mediocre is another man's best superhero movie and most restrained, perfectly executed, master of his craft... In other words, Interstellar is his weakest effort (TDKR is his weakest movie, but the effort's not there compared to everything else)

I wasn't talking about your interpretation, but I thought TDK was a good joker movie but a w/e batman movie.

How are Interstellar and Prestige his most unique movies (especially the former)? Neither film even plays around with the structure like Memento and Dunkirk do.

The Prestige is still Nolan's best movie and Interstellar's reception was perfectly fair. It was a deeply flawed film that had admirable ambition.

Dunkirk's his most impressive film, imo. Definitely one of the most audacious big budget films of the 2010's, both structurally and in terms of its ambitions.

haven't seen Memento yet but the only reasons I didn't regret watching Dunkirk was harry styles and Tom Hardy.

Yeah, a lot of people saw it early and have been under embargo until it's released ever since. Same with A Quiet Place Part II.
