The animated film flopped, why wouldn't the remake too?

The animated film flopped because Warner Bros sold it terribly and then dumped it.... in the intervening 20 years it's become a legitimate family classic. A live-action remake... which I wouldn't want tbh.... with proper marketing and those 20 years of goodwill among multiple generations... would lead to a substantial box office.

The Iron Giant isn't like Blade Runner where the film's mystique and legend is due to being difficult and weird and cold. Blade Runner 2049 did what it did because it's a sequel to a film that most of its fans don't even LIKE the first time they watch it.... and that sequel ended up ALSO being a weird, cold, difficult film.

The Iron Giant's success is due to how accessible and emotional it is. It's not a "cult" film. If you're looking for a Warner Bros. comparison to make, I'd suggest Shawshank before I put up Blade Runner. Shawshank didn't make any money at the box office either...

Its WB and a family film. It’s destined to die.

I think a live action Iron Giant would do well because it wasn't a hit first time around, the film itself is an adaptation of the book so I don't think people would have issues with a live action version

Predictions were 170-210 roughly before Thursday night. Box office pro predicted 185. Don't be ridiculous. Things will continue to "disappoint" in relation to previews as previews continue to expand.

Your point being...?

Hypothetically, if a movie is predicted to flop, and it does indeed flop, does that stop making it a flop, just because it was predicted?

With I2 making $182M on OW and BatB making $175M, I don't see how $170M for TLK would be considered a "huge success". TLK is so much more well-known and beloved than those stories are.

Live action Iron Giant sounds like a nightmare, but at least giant robots aren't real so his CGI replica could be allowed to emote

The Iron Giant does lend itself better to live action but I think from WB's POV, it's more of a risk compared to say Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry.

Call it whatever you want. Calling 1.5B a flop is idiotic. Flop for big budget is Justice League.

Tom and Jerry but it dosen't translate well into live-action.

Dexters lab ( Great potential at the BO)

Power puff girls ( very risky BO potential)

The Mask (They need to hire jim carry level actor and imho this would do great at the box office)

Johnny Bravo ( If done properly it can get 500M-700M WW)

The two most promosing of the list above are obviously the mask and dexters lab.

Other honorable mentions:

Chicken and Cow ( Nope this won't work)

Weasel and I.R baboon ( No won't work)

Fearless (50/50 but highly risky)

Ed, Edd and Eddy ( Hahahahah this one would be completely ridiculous and hilarious in the same time seeing it in Live-action and imho it could done 500-600M WW just due to it's ridiculous comedy type)

Bug bunny ( Nope)

Duck (Nope)

Samurai Jack ( This could do okay if done properly but still 400M ww)

This talk makes me wonder if something like a Treasure Planet live action remake would be neat.

But... can we please make new movies and not talk about remaking classics?

Given Disney remade Pete's Dragon, I don't think we can rule out Treasure Planet but there are more moderate hits that are in the back catalogue that have better potential.

I'm surprised Newsies has never been remade especially since they could use the stage musical as its source rather than the film,
