*A bus drops all players off at the grassy exterior of Peach’s Castle.*
SLAM!: This will be an exciting season of BOT Survivor! Do you have what it takes to predict your way to box office victory, evade elimination, and become the last one standing?
*Everyone claps in excitement.*
SLAM!: Technically, we’re still recruiting players, especially since we have 17 players and are one player shy of that 18-player goal, but even if it’s over 18 by next Sunday, that’s a-ok!*Everyone claps in excitement.*
SLAM!: There are two optional things due by Thursday at 11:59 PST. To explain more, we’re bringing out Princess Peach’s mustachioed steward, Toadsworth!*Toadsworth walks out of the castle, walking up to the castaways with his cane. The castaways stay silent because they’re not sure what to make of this wobbly old man. Suddenly, Toadsworth drops the cane and does a somersault, just like Willy Wonka. Everyone claps in excitement.*
Toadsworth: I still have some pep in my step! A-hem. Anyways…
The first optional activity is a

The second optional activity is a
TRIBE LEADER TUSSLE
Through this special event, players have the unique opportunity to compete for a team captain position.This will not effect the game itself beyond these two things:
- You will help determine which players play on which tribes.
- In the season’s story, other players will sometimes refer to you as the Tribe Leader, and they will react to your character accordingly. So earning a Tribe Leader role may affect how the story plays out.
There are three tribes this season:
THE GOOMBA SQUAD
THE KOOPA SQUAD
THE POKEY SQUAD
In addition, six castaways are ineligible for Tribe Leader Tussle because of the way the applications played out:
- @DetectiveAl, @Reddroast, and @Rorschach all answered Yoshi as their favorite Mario character, meaning they will each play on separate tribes.
- @Asyulus, @DAJK and @JJ-8 joined the game through expressing interest in the thread but did not fill out the application form, meaning they will each play on separate tribes.
- These ineligibilities ensure that these players play on separate tribes.
This event’s challenge rewards players who get First, Second, and Third place.
The first place winner:
- picks their preferred squad name
- picks one of the Yoshi Devotees
- picks one of the Survey Skippers
- picks one player of their choosing
- and I (SLAM) will fill in the rest
The second place winner:
- picks one of the two squad names left
- picks one of the two Yoshi Devotees left
- picks one of the two Survey Skippers left
- picks one player of their choosing
- and I (SLAM) will fill in the rest
The third place winner:
- receives the leftover squad name
- receives the leftover Yoshi Devotee
- receives the leftover Survey Skipper
- picks one player of their choosing
- and I (SLAM) will fill in the rest

I will warn you against asking around for other players’ answers because if players are like, “why does so and so want Tribe Leader so bad,” you might become an early target. That takes the fun out of it anyway—treat it like a low-stakes guessing game!
The Practice Prediction and your answers for Tribe Leader Tussle are both due by Thursday March 30th at 11:59 PM PST, and I’m not a stickler for exact hard deadlines but at least send them in before the Thursday preview number of Dungeons & Dragons is announced on Friday morning.

Spoiler"As someone who's worked with Majors on many projects including Carver and Christie Monteiro, I won't be the first to tell you that I am extremely disappointed in Majors' behavior. Here at Studio Groundswell, we have no place for people who enjoy domestic abuse.
After some phone calls, we're now ready to confirm that Jonathan Majors will no longer be playing Richard in our Devil Bean franchise. We are filling the role of Richard with Cocaine Bear actor O'Shea Jackson Jr., who, let's be honest, acts in a lot more comedies anyway. We're looking forward to working with O'Shea Jackson Jr. on Devil Bean II: Revenge of the Bean, which releases in Y11."

Survivor: Mushroom Kingdom Tag Frenzy
Hello! Tomorrow is the early-bird deadline to sign up to play Survivor: Mushroom Kingdom! After that, the late deadlines will be Thursday, March 30th if you want to play the Special Practice Event (more info on Monday, and then Sunday April 2nd as the Absolute Final Deadline.)You may see in the title that I ideally want 18 players for this season, and I’m three away from that, but I won’t turn anyone away if the amount of players who apply goes over 18. In other words, the final player count could be more than 18!

Probably Mario. That gives marketing about three months to swing into a higher gear. That or Evil Dead Rise because that’s the next Warner Bros. film, but I don’t know why the heck they’d debut it with that. -

I still think Murphy has a good chance despite Nolan films not getting any actors nominated before. Cilian Murphy is a clear lead in a film that all of the voters are going to see, and he has a narrative of having never been nominated before. This is Universal’s first time distributing a Nolan film and they know better than to just not campaign Murphy. He’s at least a top ten candidate. -
Watch out for The Peasants to get nominated.
It's the next film from the folks who made Loving Vincent, and it uses a similar painting style.
Google says it's dated to release in September.

Dates for a wide-release on May 12th after a surprise work-in-progress screening at SXSW.
Rodriguez has been wanting to make this film for over two decades. The film was delayed by the pandemic and spent two years in post-production lingo after its initial distributor Solstice Studio imploded during its production.
The synopsis:
“Affleck stars as a detective who finds himself spiraling down a rabbit hole while investigating a series of reality-bending crimes mysteriously connected to his missing daughter. Aided by a gifted psychic, he is pursued by a lethal specter who he believes holds the key to finding his daughter.”

A trailer was just rated to in Canada, so I’m guessing new trailer with Mario opening on 6/30. (Though 2 months for a major marketing campaign is ridiculous.)
They might not release it on 6/30 because Harold and the Purple Crayon is currently dated there. This definitely feels like a Summer movie though, so they'll have to try and fit this in somewhere.

Best Actress feels weaker than Best Actor at this time. Actor has an abundance of heavy hitters in play, including Cooper, DiCaprio, Majors, and Murphy, while there’s a smaller amount of actress contenders we know about going into this year. But there are enough contenders to make this category interesting to predict.
Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer) and Carey Mulligan (Maestro) are co-starring with their films’ big stars, but we don’t know if they’re campaigning for lead or supporting, so I’ve decided not to predict them yet.
As of now, I’m going with:
Fantasia Barrino, The Color Purple
- lead in a big musical
Annette Bening, Nyad
- she plays a woman who swims from Cuba to Florida, and the film is directed by the people who did Free Solo and The Rescue
Greta Lee, Past Lives- potentially a big push from A24
Margot Robbie, Barbie
- she’s about to elevate an already great film
Saoirse Ronan, The Outrun- she plays an alcoholic; the film is from the director of The Unforgivable with Sandra Bullock

One thing to think about is that Super Mario comes out during the second weekend, but after that, the rest of April is very weak until the release of GotG 3 in May. So this film is going to have its first weekend and then the whole of April to attract audiences through word of mouth as the marquee “fun” action blockbuster that everyone can see. The overall weakness of April will definitely help this movie at the box office, because Renfield’s not gonna “do it,” Evil Dead Rise’s not gonna “do it,” Big George Foreman’s not gonna “do it”—but this film could.

Cayom Magazine Release Date Shakeups
- Roxie will now release without IMAX on August 14th, Y10.
- Studio Groundswell will release an adaptation of a novel called The Shadow Glass (from Attack the Block director Joe Cornish) on May 15th, Y10. The story follows the son of a deceased filmmaker who made a puppet fantasy film (i.e. Dark Crystal) during the 80s, with the film’s adventure kickstarting after the puppets come to life. Daniel Radcliffe stars as the son while Emilia Clarke voices one of the puppets.
