The SUPER BOFFIES! Celebrating A Decade of Awards | The Ceremony is Complete, Come See Who Won!!

Recommended Posts

Happy Labor Day everyone! With Labor Day brings fall, which means we have time for one last awards program on the boards before the 2022 BOFFYs, and this is a big one.

The first ever SUPER BOFFYs are here. The first ever BOFFY ceremony was held in 2012, and as such, 2021 marked the tenth ever BOFFY ceremony. Thus, it’s time to celebrate a decade of our own little award show and hold a grand championship of the award winners to figure out just what the greatest BOFFY wins of the last decade were. Every film-related category will have ten nominations, while also throwing in the current winners for the box office categories and the Best Forum Moment category.

Now, I know what you might be wondering. What do I mean by current winner? Well, although this will be made up primarily former winners of BOFFYs, there were some years where we introduced an award later in the process than others, and some years where we inexplicably forgot to award a certain category. Ergo, there will indeed be a nomination process for these missing awards, before we enter standard voting.

(And for those wondering why we won’t be doing decade awards for the user or television categories: the former is impossible to judge that year’s work of the user really and the latter does not seem fair to compete specific seasons of television against each other this far from the times of their wins.)

Now, before I say which categories need to be voted on, some housekeeping. The only current BOFFY film awards that won’t be included in this ceremony is Best Stunt Ensemble, as we’ve only given that award out twice in the past ten years; and Best Breakthrough, as judging the breakthroughs in hindsight would be unfair to the more recent winners in the category).

The way the voting system works is you will send your top three choices for that category ranked. We will then only take the votes for #1 into account, and if there’s a clear winner, that will be the nomination. However, if there is a tie, we will look at second place and then hypothetically third place votes to find our winner.

Finally, unlike in the 2002 retro Boffies, year release is determined by US release date; no exceptions. This is so to keep historically with the other predetermined nominees from that year.

Alright, here are the categories we need filled for this nomination procedure.

Ballots with three ranked choices are due on October 2 at 11pm EST, sent to me and @The Panda. This will NOT be extended as the goal is to hold the overall ceremony the week before Wakanda Forever comes out.

And… if you’d like to get started on catchup before the official total nominations are announced, here is a list of films that currently will definitely be part of the Super Boffy nomination list (excluding box office categories).

Happy FYCing and voting!

All ballots due to me (and hopefully @The Panda if he clears his inbox) by November 1 at 11:59pm EST to ensure the ceremony takes place prior to Wakanda Forever opening weekend! Be sure to rank all films, as we will follow the ranked elimination style of voting for every categories. Thanks!!

@Blankments  do we have to rank all in every category or is it a top 5 or 6 in everything but Best Film?

Rank as much as you can in every category. I’ll be using the same voting system panda has used for a while where it’s the same elimination style the Academy uses for Best Pic, so your vote will still count equally no matter how many you rank.

Important update: I've been informed of a family event I must attend the day I had planned to hold the ceremony. As such, the ceremony will be pushed back to the week after Wakanda Forever comes out. This means the deadline is now November 14 at 11:59pm EST. Thanks!
