Dude I know everyone's gonna have a hard-on for your list because it's old movies but aside from the top 20 it's literally in release order. Literally all bottom 80 movies are in release year order. Are you giving equal points to them or something? That's the only way I would see this making sense.

I know it's everyone's business but you can't tell me that your appreciation of all 80 of those movies is perfectly, directly and 100% correlated to, AND inversely proportional to the year they were released... to the T?

Edit: Aaaaand the top 20 is also in release order, except in its own bubble.

My suggestion: give equal points to those movies. Equal points to each of the top 20, equal points to each of the bottom 80

The list that Capt sent to me they allocated their own points so their specific ranking did not matter. Their submission was perfectly fine, let's not attack them please.

Also, old movies are the best :)

It was hard enough whittling the list down to just 100 movies. Chronologically ordering them saved me a headache.

I used to love making a top film list when my exposure to films was more limited but the more and more great films I watch the harder and harder it is to rank them against each other. The greatness, to my mind, of one over the other could be so infinitesimal as to be irrelevant.

The top 20 is fairly concrete, and SUNRISE is probably my #1 movie at the moment, but again they are chronologically listed because can I honestly say I prefer, for instance, DOUBLE INDEMNITY over IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE?  How does one compare CITY LIGHTS to THE MATRIX? All I know is both had a profound impact on me.

I'd find it easier to rank a director's filmography or the top movies of a year than ranking 100+ years of movies against each other.

Obviously a lot of lists have crossovers but if you'd told me another person would have had this exact trifecta in their list of 100, I wouldn't have believed them.

A person of culture indeed.
